I hadn't planned to go Minca but our aussie friend Jimbo told us about this really cool hostel with huge hammocks looking over the whole of Santa Marta and parts of northern Colombia. The options were either trekking up to this hostel on really bad terrain for 3 hours or pay to get a bike up for £5. The best decision was the bike as it was like dirt biking. The road up was just sludge and the bikers wore wellies because they had to help push the bikes through knee deep sludge. 40 minutes on the back of this bike was a lot of fun and for sure, they earned their money. The bikes certainly took a beating, I was surprised the bikes didn't blow up. Once we arrived at the hostel in the mountains, it was a disappointment. Hammocks were worn and had big holes in them and the view was blocked from the clouds. Luckily we didn't book to stay there, we stayed in another hostel at the bottom in a small village. We did meat 3 nice girls who we sat and chatted too for a while and we all walked to this small waterfall.
Our hostel was located in the forest, so mornings were bliss listening to the water rushing down the lake and surrounded my woodland. However, many moths and butterflies, especially at night when trying to sleep. It was a nice little trip to break up our route as most of the destinations from now on, are big cities. It was much fresher too so was nice to put my hoody on at night. Even if it did smell of dirty clothes as it has just been stuck in the bottom of my bag for months. My Spanish is definitely improving but also being tested, as it is just myself conversation in Spanish now. I no longer have Seb by my side to help, come back Seb! After Minca we went back to Santa Marta again for one more night to wait for our flight the next day to Bogota. Only an hour flight and cost £40. The airline tried to charge us again for our bags because on their system we hadn't purchased any bags, even though we had. I had proof and so I had to send it to them via email. Again, Kyle had a mare because everything Kyle uses is either broken or not accessible. Which means he wasn't able to access his emails for his flight invoice. He finally managed to get it by plugging his s*** and broken iPhone into the lady's computer. But I had to take a photo of his phone and send it to her, I honestly thought he would have to pay again for his bags.
