Ann's Asia Experience
so last time i wrote it was beautiful sunshine but now its misty and raining!!!!!! typical - we spent just about 26 hours on a sleeper bus from Sanya to Guilin on the mainland and arrived to rain. at least im not feeling so homesick now coz the weather makes me feel like im back in good old medway!! i would recommend that if you ever find yourselves on a sleeper bus in china that you get the bottom bunk and preferably one by the window. i however was on the top bunk in the middle and remember that these beds are made for more petite asian people so it was a very uncomfortable 26 hours. as the drivers over here do pretty much what they want, as long as they beep their horn, we spent the whole journey clinging on for dear life as he sped round corners and overtook anything in his way (even if there was something coming the other way). id better stop there on that subject before i give my mum a heart attack!! anyway, the ferry crossing was much better although the men over here have a tendancy to just continually stare at us, which is quite intimidating at first and then just gets f*!@ing annoying!!!! the toilets (if you can call them that) out here are an experience in themselves. on the ferry they had no doors, and consisted of a trough running through all the cubicles, and so everyone elses pee runs through your cubicle as you do your business, and everyso often you see something else float past......!!!! sorry that my journal entries always end up about toilet related issues! i shall swiftly move on and tell you that from Guilin, where the sleeper bus stopped, we got on another bus and are now staying in a little city called Yangshou. it is very picturesque here and the city is surrounded by Kast mountains which are very beautiful. we are staying here until friday when we are going back to guilin and then getting a bus to the border with Vietnam. I will upload some photos once the weather breaks and hopefully there may be some of me and charlie in there aswell. going to hire some bikes today then go caving tomorrow. ill probably update you next once we have crossed into Vietnam.
