Ok it has been over a week since my last entry, and once again you're going to have to bear with me, although this time it is because I have the mother of all hangovers! My hands are litterally shaking, head thumping and heart racing, damm it I shouldn't have down rounds with a glaswegian, boy the scots can drink!!!!!
So as you can see I am now in Phi Phi which is on the other side to Koh Tao. Last Thursday I managed to get a boat and a bus over to Krabi, which was quite a long, arduous and exhausting journey. Basically the night ferry lasted 7 hours, then we were shipped over to a bus station where we had to wait for 3 hours, followed by another 3 hour bus journey, then another 2 hour wait until I got another boat to Raley (no idea how to spell this!) for a further hour. Raley Beach is a small island or atleast I think it is an island, which was really cool altough quite expensive. I limited my time here to just a couple of days, of lazing on the beach, trying to get a tan!
Anyway, after this I got another boat onto Phi Phi, where I have been for the last 5 days! I had heard so much of this island both good and bad, I was keen to see for myself what the fuss was about. Phi Phi by all accounts is a bit like Marmite, you either love it or hate it. It is certainly true that the beaches here are stunning with crisp white sand, emerald waters and picturesque limestone cliffs, you could certainly be forgiven for thinking that you are indeed in paradise. However, then you are bought back to reality with a thud when you look accross the beach and you see hundreds of other tourists all trying to squeeze on the beach. Note I say 'tourists' rather than travellers as you can conjure up all the typical steroetypes in your heads I am sure, the budgy smuggling speedos, the high hitched shorts and the plump middle aged women with their thick leathery skin all out in force in Phi Phi. So basically Phi Phi is a bit like paradise with a bit of a Bennidorm feel thrown in. You might thinking I am moaning but I do love this place for those very reasons, as I am in an island with beautiful beaches, lively nightlife and you get the entertainment value of people watching, whats not to like?
So anyway, as I say I have now been here for 5 days now, pretty much chilling out on the beach, slowly but surely tanning, and the nights partying with my new Glaswegian friend, watching the lady boy boxing in the Reggae bar which ironically despite its name does not play reggae music! I even found time yeasterday to fit in a sightseeing/snorkelling tour of the island, which included a stop at 'The Beach', used in the film! It was a good day out, but with so much hype, you kind of feel slightly dissapointed when you actually get there! I mean its nice but it did not blow me away or anything! In fact I think it is the same beach as the picture for this journal.
Sorry I have hust realised how much I am rambling on, who knows maybe I am still slightly drunk. So anyway, tommorrow I am leaving Phi Phi for Lanta which is the next island down, I will probably stay there for a few days, more or less carrying on with the same as here before making my way down into Malaysia. I can't believe how quickly the time is going at the moment and I am excited about what lies ahead!
So before I bore you anymore, I hope everyone reading this is well and I hope to see you soon!
Cheers
Jon
