Following the fun of the Estancia we made our way on a 2 day trip back across the border to Argentina and, more specifically, Iguazu Falls on the border of Argentina and Brazil. The town itself is small, not a huge amount to look at but everyone is here to visit the waterfalls (Los Cataratas del Iguazu).
The waterfalls are a group of 275 individual falls stretching along 2.7 kilometres of the Iguazu River. They're up to 82 metres in height, so they're pretty big - bigger and higher than Niagra but with a lower water flow rate, apparently. Well, they're pretty impressive with a constant thundering and some places where the water spray soaks you through. That said, you do have to negotiate the inevitable crowds who come to see the place so it doesn't feel particularly unique but that's for a reason - it is worth seeing these. Going with the attitude that if we couldn't beat 'em we joined 'em on a speedboat that took us right into the thick plumes of watery mist that emerge from and hide the base of the falls from the power of the water. It is a great place to have seen and Iguazu was fun - we shared a small apartment with a couple we'd met on the Estancia in Uruguay and ended up having a good night out with the only other 3 people who had been in the ranch having bumped into them unexpectedly a few days later.
Our time in South America is pretty much up now, the passport situation means we will have to miss out one of Peru or Bolivia given the time we've lost. Now, we have found out that Eleanor's parents are going on a Caribbean cruise which will end in Miami so we're going to jump on a computer, book a place to stay and go and see them there for an impromptu trip to North America…
