So here goes our 2nd installment. Its only taken 6 weeks since the 1st installment (pretty tough to find the time as a traveller to sit down and type). Since then we have trooped round New Zealand for 4 weeks and chilled in Sydney for Xmas and New Year, having arrived in Queensland today.
So a quick snapshot of New Zealand ....
We collected a campervan in christchruch (converted transit van) and headed south to Lake Tekapo the 1st night; then down further to Dunedin to spot some wild yellowed eyed penguins - sweet! Not realising how cold it would be in the campervan we frooze for the 1st couple of nights. Weather was bad so we headed to the west cost Fjord district - where it was even wetter and the van started to leak!
We headed around Milford Sound on a boat trip spotting some amazing scenery and wildlife.
Then to Queenstown where Jon did his 2 bungys - 47m off the ledge over Queenstown and then the Canyon Swing bungy. Beth wouldn't be participating in any of this! Met some mates that we met in the cook islands and went on a great session. did jetboating and luging down mountains.. amazing town.. could of stayed there for weeks. Well we nearly had to when beth locked the keys into the campervan and Jon had to break in through the skylight!
from there we went north to climb franz josef glazier.... a full day trek in the rain on the ice loved by Beth and despised by jon (his waterproof wasnt waterproof!) Ended up leaving our power cable plugged in on site as we drove off. Only realised about 2 miles up the road after the many flashes and hand singnals that we should check it out. The 30 ft cable was destroyed and cost us $120 to replace! Muppets
From there north and then west over Lewis Pass to Kaikora, dropped back campervan in Christchurch ( a day later than we were meant too ...whoops andther blonde moment for beth) and drove a car to Abel tasman where we kayaked around this stunning national park. from there we headed towards the north island mneeting up with Jon's cousins Amy and Eithne in Blenheim to wine taste, and then to Wellington where Jean and Ronan treated us like Kings for a few days and brought us on a great pub crawl around Wellington.
From there north and walked over the Tongarrio crossing. 20km over a volcanic mountain! Then Taupo for 15,000 ft skydives and then up to Roturoa for White Water rafting (the higest commercially rafted fall of 21ft) and more volcanic stuff.
Then to the North East when we spend some time chillin on the beaches. One was called hot water beach where you dig a hole in the sand and it fill up with thermal water to make it like a jacuizzi-too hot for jon. Then Auckland where we met up with Jon's cousins Ray, Amy and Eithne for one final New Zealand Session.
4 weeks not long enough in NZ and we will have to leave the full stories for when we get back.
Check out the pictures, we are trying to upload skydives etc to You Tube. Will update with the Oz one in 6 months!!!!!!!!!!!
