Berlin Day 4 2nd June
Since we left home the weather has been indifferent; well actually quite bad and certainly not as warm as we hoped. It hailed in Maidstone!
As we drove from Bielefeld to Berlin what we did notice was the water lying in the fields which we thought a little strange. The rivers were also rather high, like the Elbe, suggesting that the area has had a lot of rain. Since arriving in Berlin rain has been the general story although we have managed to avoid it during the day, early evening has seen thunderstorms and lashings of rain. Some of our fellow campers went out yesterday to walk the dog wearing gear suitable for running. When they returned 30 minutes later they were completely drenched having been caught in a real downpour.
Some other campers have suggested to us that it will not get much better! This is not at all what we expected or hoped for. We have also seen some German news casts in shops that hint at flooding somewhere south of us including the Danube. Thus we decide that we need check on wifi to see what we can learn about the forecast for Warsaw.
It is not good news. Rain is predicted, with storms for the next two weeks. Whilst going to museums and memorial sights was high on our list of places to go, we also hoped to do other things, like walk, and sit and read and enjoy the sunshine. None of this seems likely!
Therefore, we have changed out plans, very reluctantly on my part, but North Western Germany and Holland looks a far better prospect with sunshine and warmth. So we will now head of towards Bremen and into Ost Friesland and see what we can find. If nothing then into Holland and down the coast towards den Hague and maybe a visit to the islands. Could be fun and hopefully dry and warm!
