Day 18 a feast of crab
We woke again to the familiar sound of rain on the sky lite and wonder if we would get all the final adventures in. The rain was heavy at the black bear inn but as we drove north it started to clear , you beauty, so our first stop was the The native Alaskan long house or their home that would house the whole family clan. These and many other buildings and totems were all hand crafted and were very beautiful , but similar to other we have seen.
We then decided to go to Lake Ward ,an if the rain held off we would hike around the lake . This is a very peaceful walk,so quite you could hear the fish plop when they jumped in the water. It was here I again saw the salmon swimming up stream this time there was just a small amount of water to swim in. I did see a couple of different slugs ,one black as the ace of spades the other off white ,never seen that before,
so took a photo.
It was now lunch so head back to base to barque the halibut wrapped in foil with butter ,lemon slices and salt and pepper, we had this fish in a fish sandwich just 2days ago and the deep frying of it destroyed the whole experience for us,thIs time using our technique the favour and texture was outstanding , the flesh though it was cooked remained firm ,there was just the right amount of everything ,best fish I .have eaten overseas .
This evening we're going to The George Inlet lodge,a crab house that serves all you can eat crab.Dungeness crab is what was served up and it was sensational . Sweet , flavour easy to eat, each mouthful a new taste experience.
Before we went we went to see if we could spot any more black Bears , we were lucky and saw a mother and her cub fairly close to us photos are better this time you will enjoy.
We move on to morrow not sure if the blog will be about we will just wait and see
Love Shirley and John.
