Hello from a VERY cold Beijing!
As briefly said in the last blog Hong Kong was pretty awesome. we spend most of our time just wondering around in awe at the number of scyscrapers there were. But we had some really delicious meals and went to the cinema as well as a treat. we got our CHinese visas all sorted and then headed on a 24 hours train to Beijing.
we booked what were called "hard sleepers" becasue they were the cheapest but compared to indian slepper trains they were bliss. we were even supplied with a lovely thick duvet and pillow and all managed to have a really good sleep. we also met some really nice people on the train including an American woman called Theresa who we are currently staying in a hostel with and she is lovely and useful because she knows a bit of chinese!
Stepping in to the sub-zero temperatures of Beijing was a bit of a shock with the limited warm clothes we had so the hunt for accomodation was brief. we had our first night in a slightly more expensive hotel type thing but we have now moved to a cheaper hostel.
The next couple of days we spent kitting ourselves out with warm coats, boots and thermal leggings! so we are now just about able to withstand the cold.
We have visited Tianemen square which was really good. We took quite a few pictures which we will try and get up soon.
We plan to visit the forbidden city and the great wall in the next few days so that will come in our next installment.
Anyway, love you all! speak soon. Jules, jen and neil xxx
