So I've managed to find free wifi again today, and got a few hours spare before we go out for the day.
Luckily everywhere weve stayed has had wifi, hence the much regular than usual posting. It's not that I'm sad and have nothing else to do but look around for Internet cafes.
So here's how the last couple of days went: amazing last night in Bangkok on Saturday. Started off with a massive meal for all 24 of us in a restaurant on khaosan road, only a 2 min walk from our hostel. Some amazing Thai food - spring rolls and spicy Thai green soup to start, then a massive bowl of rice and a choice of 3 different curries to go with it. Followed by the standard freshly cut pineapple and melon dessert. All of the fruit tastes amazing out here, so much fresher than at home.
After the meal we walked to a bar and shared two buckets of cocktails, just ordering the ones with the stupid names - 'blue kamikaze' (we guessed at a mix of vodka, blue wdk and rum, but really didn't have a clue) and then 'juicy lucy' (really banana flavoured - some sort of Banana liquor, banana juice, and orange juice.)
The wind started to blow in, and everywhere suddenly got a lot cooler. Kind of knew what would happen when everyone started putting umbrellas up and covering speakers in bin bags. Decided to move to an inside bar and got there just missing the torrential downpour. Craziest amount of rain in about 2 hrs I've ever seen.
The bar was called "gazebo" and (coincidentally) that's what it was. A massive tarp style thing stretched over the roof of the building. Super comfy sofas and low tables in a kind of Indian style room. Had a few drinks here listening to the amazing live band, all they played was covers of - kings of leon, the killers, muse, nirvana, red hot chili peppers, and a few others I can't remember. The point is all bands I am massive fans of. Sadly did sing along to pretty much every song.
From here we walked to a cheaper bar, which was mid - UV rave. Ended up getting on stage and (badly) dancing with everyone. Called it a night fairly early as we had a 4 hr bus trip the next day and had to check out the hostel early the next day.
Got up and had breakfast, more pineapple and melon! Then checked out and walked to the bus. The air con on here was rubbish so did end up getting a bit stuffy. Must be getting used to it as I managed to grab about an hours nap.
Arrived at the accommodation - set right on the river Kwai. Massive communal 'beach hut' style thing, with a kitchen and reception, and a huge pool. 6 buildings all centered round the pool, each 3 stories, with 6 rooms in it, all of which have a balcony. Spent about 3 hrs chilling by the pool before going out to dinner again.
Got a kind of taxi, basically a pick up truck, with 2 rows of seats on the back and a roof. Drove for about 5 mins, got off and walked onto a massive floating pontoon restaurant that we had to ourselves for the night. Another nice meal along a similar style - spring rolls, soup, rice and curry. More pineapple for dessert (seriously getting my 5 a day) Ate being towed up the river by a barge, watching all the very cool scenery drift by.
Finished our meal and sat around the edge of the pontoon dipping our feet in the river and chatting, got towed all the way to the famous "bridge over the river qwai" and then floated back to our hotel.
Quick break then out for the night in Kanchanaburi. Made the 10 min walk into the town, and had a very relaxed night. Lots of sitting around talking, and we even got a game of 2 v 2 snooker in - we won after coming back from 5-0 down! :) walked back, picked up some snacks and drinks from the 7-11 (closest thing to a western supermarket) they are literally everywhere - passed 3 on the way back home. Waiting for the day when I see 2 across the road from each other.
Got back at about 11 and sat by the pool for 10 mins before we realised it would be much nicer to get in. It was so warm - almost like a bath, only slightly spoiled by the amount of dead insects floating in it.
Today we spent the entire day at erawan national park. A large jungle area with a river running through it, altogether there are 7 waterfalls. Climbed right to the top one (a 25 min hike in 30 degree weather!) before diving in the cool water at the top. There were lots of fish in the river, and they kept nibbling at your feet if you stood still for too long. Climbed back down to the 4th waterfall which had a natural slide and a huge plunge pool you could jump into.
Lunch was more pad Thai, and fruit for dessert, then the same pick up truck taxis from the day before drove us the 45 mins home.
Sat by the pool writing this, everyones going out for dinner at 7, unfortunately i have to wait at the hotel til half 8 for a phone call about a job I hope to get in Canada. So will have to walk in by myself later.
Cover image today is the view from our balcony, with pool and beach hut thingy on the right

Claire Haworth You could sell the "dead insects" from the pool to the street food vendors! Also, fish nibbling your toes - latest beauty therapy craze/treatment ..... you pay a lot here to have those things nibbling away the dead skin on your feet!
