Well, I have to say that thinking my flight to Dublin was scary (and possibly the worst I'd encounter) was a big mistake. I encountered a whole new type of aircraft heading to Scotland, one with propellers on the outside of the plane! The fact that they were packing about 80 people onto this toy looking craft was enough to have my heart beating out of my chest for the better part of the 30 minute flight. Luckily it wasn't any longer or I might not have been able to take it!
The next day was on to bigger and better things with my 5 day tour through the highlands with "Haggis Adventures", and the name proved to be very appropriate as that was our meal for the first night of the tour. I hope everyone will be proud of me when I say not only did I try it (willingly) but it also wasn't actually that bad. This is the part where I mention I didn't actually look up the ingredients until the day after where I found out it involves various parts of a sheep's anatomy including the heart, lungs and liver! Yummy!!
The rest of the trip included beautiful scenery and castles, previous filming locations, monster hunting, and lots of Scottish tales (both true and questionable). The tales included hundreds of years of battles for Scottish freedom (with trips to the actual battle fields), as well as tales of witches, elves, and fairies (which also included trips to the actual sites). I'll let you decide which category these all fall into!
I met tons of people on the trip, which consisted of about 95% Australians. We all spent lots of time together and enjoyed the night time activities which included quiz night, giant Jenga, watching football, and traditional Scottish dancing night. This last one was the most fun of the entire tour and we all got to show off our skills (or lack thereof) to traditional choreographed dances with real live Scottish music. It was a great week but very hectic and non-stop. Now time to get back to my own pace and do some more exploring of Scotland's capital.
I will leave you with a few fun facts I learned about Scotland:
1- There are more deer than people in the country due to nothing higher on the food chain.
2- The entire human population can fit into Loch Ness 10x over.
3- In Scotland people have the "right to roam" which essential means you can set up camp anywhere as long as you clean up after yourself!
4- Last but not least, there is allegedly 4x as much whiskey in the country as there is people!
And with that I will say goodbye!
Love,
Sara
