Jess in Europe
Biarritz France... I take back what I said about Reims, I am convinced that Biarritz is the most perfect place on the planet. Seriously it is amazing. When I got off the bus down town the view literally gave me goose bumps, the whole city is on the base of a mountian and you walk down into the City Centre to get to the little shops and beaches.
I got into Biarritz around 9:30pm after a long train ride from Paris. Although, I need to take a moment and congradulate myself on successfully navigating the Paris Metro to get to my Train station with out Evann! YAY me! She is usually the Metro girl and I usually just go where I am told to get where I want! But this time I did it on my own! Go me! :) :) :)
Anyway, I met a Austrian girl waiting for the Biarritz train we chatted for while about politics (that was her major in college too!) and how she liked Barcelona, it was nice to kill time (3 hours!) while we waited for out seperate trains, we exhanged emails to try and meet up in Italy some where since we will probably be there the same time.
So, I get to my hotel late, I had to take a cab because I hadnt figured out the public transportation system, but like an idiot I forgot to write down the NAME of the hotel that I was staying, only the address, there were at least 7 hotels all in the same area, but I must have looked sad because the cabby offered to call and ask what hotel for me so I didnt have to communicate in frnch over the phone (WHEW!)
I decided to just go to the hotel bar and hang out, I didnt want to even try to learn a bus system at night when only a specific bus runs and I had no idea where the stop was. I met some nice Aussie boys in the hotel bar that were staying there too, we hung out and drank and before I knew it, it was 4am. DOH! Like nice forigen boys I didnt pay for 1 drink (LOVE IT!) and I bid them adu until tomorrow night when we were all going to head out to the city Centre.
I set a wake up call for 9am and went back to my (air conditioned) hotel room and slept in a NON hot room! YAY!
Got up at 10am and headed out to the train station on the bus to book my ticket to Nice (didnt want a repeat of stress like last time) I had my fist successful conversation with a non-engligh speaker and booked the right train ticket. It wasnt easy, but kudos to me for actually doing it! I booked an over night train from the 26th to the 27th a couchette to I wouldnt have to pay for a hotel the next night.
Took the bus back tot eh City Centre and wandered around with out a map or any idea where I was going for a few hours, came across a small cafe with cheap champange and ate some lunch with champange, then found this little cove down the hill that wasnt crowded at all!!! which was amazing considering how crowded everything else was!
Met some British & French peeps on the beach and we all drank French beer and swam in the cove. The COOLEST part was when you got half way across to the rocks that you can jump off, there was a sign saying you were in Spain! I can now say I have swam to spain! :) heehee! played in the water ALL day and then told my new friends that we would meet up at the pub up the hill at 11:30pm.
Bus back to the hotel where I showered and changed and met my Aussie boys and we bussed back into the city Centre (I have totally mastered public transit!) met up with the british and French peeps and we bar hopped making fun of the 14 year old in 4000.00 outfits with their body guards. There was a lot of royalty in town I guess from all over the world, we saw tons of cars with flags on them in a parade of sorts.
Stumbled back to the Ibis hotel at 6am and got up at 9am to check out and leave my bags while I went to the beach and shopping; my train didnt leave till 7pm. Spent the day laying out and napping and found some cute stuff to bring home for Lyn and Jules! :)
I accidently got sunburned in the spots that I am not used to applying sun screen too, my bathing suit is a lot lower then my old one. I was not brave enough to go topless though, I am going to wait for Evann to do that! :) I did see lots of boobs this weekend though! WOAH! :) I have learned that the french like to where bikinis no matter the shape of size, it is kind of strange not seeing just the typical CA bikini body.
Called and woke up Dad while waiting for my bus then rushed back to the hotel to change in the bathroom and catch a bus to catch another bus to the train station. Met a german group at the train station who were all living all over! (LA, NY and Bejing) and taking a holiday together. They were going to rough it in the chairs though and I had a mini bed on the train, we had some drinks at the bar (love how the forigen boys buy all the drinks!) and then I went to my couchette to go to sleep! :)
More on the train ride later! :)
Muah!
