Mum and I are off to Asia on a girl's trip to find business contacts for mum and a new wardrobe for me. Stop One- Kuala Lumpur The Transit!
We're on the red eye flight to KL with Malaysian Airlines.. Were in the middle of the middle row.. YUK! Anyway after watching the Disney movie tangled which I quite enjoyed I then attempted the impossible of trying to sleep... After failed sleeping attempts we land in KL! It's a 10 hour transit and at this stage it is 5:15am..
We caught the airport express train into the city then after walking around with my head in a map we find the monorail and head downtown to the shopping precinct.. This stage it's about 7:30am and nothing is open.. It is hot and muggy. Anyway we go into a hotel and scoff down some buffet breakfast and freshen up.
We still have an hour or so to kill so we hit up some foot massages..
10am shopping time.. We hit all the shopping centres but looking not buying as we know HK will have a lot of great shopping.. Anyway the time rounds up to 1pm we have been up for over 30 hours at this stage and we make our way back to the airport and wait for our flight to Hong Kong!
KL takes two- the stopover!
We arrive in KL around 3:30pm get our transfer to our hotel the Federal, freshen up and go down stairs for our tour. As we only had a limited time in KL (one night) we decided to do a night tour. This tour took us to the main Hindu Temple in KL, china town markets and also an amazing Malay theatre dinner show. First stop was the temple. It was so bright and colourful with carvings and candles. We spent about 5mins looking around and snapping some pics before heading down the road to Chinatown. The market was busy and bustling with people. There were Chinese lanterns everywhere and little men with fake designer everything.. DVD miss, Gucci, Prada.. You want Louis Vuitton miss.. They were persistent, I will give them that. After half an hour or so we were onto our next stop the Malay theatre dinner show. The food was buffet style and amazing and I am very proud to say I finally ate some local dishes and not western.. It took me until the last night but I did it! Anyway they had dances from all different religions and communities within Malaysia. They then had a crowd participation dance where they came and selected a few people from the crowd.. And of course being the only blonde westerner in the room guess who was picked.. Yep me! We had to do this dance that is some traditional dance, it is sort of like hop-scotch mixed with jump rope.. Anyway I jumped when I should have skipped and lost my shoe and nearly went ass over.. I then retired my dancing career, left the stage and let the professionals carry on with the show. After dinner we headed back to the hotel where we bid Farwell to our Canberra tour comrades and wandered down the street to see what Friday night in KL was like. We bought some key rings that a man made from wire with our names on it and shopped around some more.. I had always wanted to see the petronas towers so we negotiated a cab driver to take us, wait for me to take a few happy snaps and bring us home.. And it was worth the 30MYR ($10aud) they were amazing, these two towers standing side by side looking like giant towers of crystal. After a few snaps I jumped back in the cab quite content and was ready to call it a night.
Last day: woke up for brekkie, packed the bags, checked out and off we went to kill the 7 hours until we had to leave for the airport. First stop: china town! After negotiating with the bank of mum for a loaner so I didn't have to hit an atm we were on our way.. Buying pants, purses, dvds (season 8 of one tree hill woohoo) and bangles the money soon dissolved and we headed back to batik bintang area where mum drank coffee and I got another massage.. We browsed a few shopping complexes before heading back to the hotel and grabbing our gear and transfer to the airport.. This is usually where I would end the entry as everyone knows what a transfer and airport are like but our transfer was a little bazaar.. Our driver started by lecturing me about not been married and that because I am not married I should not be lifting heavy objects like my bag as this can minimise my chances of being able to bare children when I get married.. I kept laughing which made him worse "no I am serious miss, you will not be able to have babies and no man will want to marry you then if you keep lifting heavy bags" I thought to myself, should I stir the pot and tell him about my big trip around the world where I'll be karting my heavy back pack all over the place. I decided against this, which I am glad as then he moved onto how Malaysia is a bad country to live as it is expensive and they earn next to nothing and how Australia is so much cheaper. I argued this slightly before realising this was a lost cause and accepting that he was right Australia is super cheap the live in... Apparently. He then told us the 7 secret herbs and spices and how to make KFC chicken, thinking what else could he do/ say we past a Hindu temple which he pointed out to us and then took both hands off the wheel and started preying.. After veering slightly off the road he grabbed the wheel again.. At this stage he had not gone over 70km an hour, hovering closer to 60 and I make the mistake of asking how far to the airport.. He then lectures me for the next half hour until we reach the airport about safety on the road and obeying the road rules.. I told him I agreed and bit my tongue and didn't tell him that the limit was mostly 90km so going a tad bit faster wouldn't hurt.. Anyway lectured and morally defeated we were at the airport.. Checked in and we just boarded.. Home time!
