7/2 Ciao Massa Lubrense! Benvenuto Spello!
I got up early to pack the last of my things and to carry my luggage up the 80 or so steps to the top where our driver would be picking us up to take us to the Naples train station. Paul, Leona and Leah left at 5 am so our group was down to 7. Our driver, Massimo, got there at about 7:00 and we were off to Naples.
Once we got to Naples, we unloaded our things and went into the station. I hadn't yet activated my Eurail pass so I had to go get that done. We were then told we could catch a train that left about 4 mins. later. We ran, grabbed our stuff, and made it to the train.
Our train ride was a couple hours. We had our own train car. A guy with a snack cart came by, started handing out snacks and drinks and then handed a receipt for 13 euros. That was slick.
When we got into Spello it was raining pretty hard. We hailed a cab that speedily drove us to our hotel: Hotel Palazzo Bocci. After checking into our rooms (3 rooms all in our own wing), we decided to venture out in the rain to look for a place to have a snack. We found a cool little cafe where we sat under the overhang and watched the rain. The nice part about it was that it was actually pretty warm still. We then headed back to our rooms because it was that time of the day: nap time!
After a 2 1/2 hour nap and after the rain had stopped, we decided to look for a place for dinner. The woman at the hotel desk suggested a place not far down the street. We walked along the cobblestones and found a nice big restaurant with a huge stone pizza oven.
Some in our group ordered pizzas (thin crust with tons of cheese!) and I ordered a pork loin... I was so over carbs at that point that the only thing that sounded good was meat! During dinner we watched Italy's version of "America's Funniest Home Videos" on the TV right above our table. We were the typical loud Americans who laughed way to loud and made lots of noise during dinner. It's what we do best!
After dinner and a little time of digesting, we made our way back to our hotel. All I wanted was a nice shower and to read my book, which is exactly what I did before calling it a night.
