Bucharest!
We bush camped for a second night (again in a stunning remote location) and had a campfire and everything! We visited Brasov and Bran Castle yesterday. To be honest I was not all that impressed by either. Bran castle felt like someone's house, it wasn't castle like at all! (And Dracula never lived there anyway!) Brasov was just a small down with not mush to do, but did have a huge "Hollywood' sign on the mountain which made me chuckle!
After the castle we tried to find our third bush camp but the valleys and mountains (which gave stunning views) gave no campsites so as a group we voted to head on to Bucharest and night early meaning that we had a full free today and no travel. Although this meant pitching our tents in the dark it was worth the extra 118K drive!
Today we've spent the day in Bucharest centre, which is possibly the most bizarre capital city! It's very strange because as soon as we arrived we all wanted to leave! It's grubby and no one seems to smile but we persevered and have had a entertaining day walking though the streets etc.
Actually the most entertaining moments over the last few days have not been the cities but more things that have happened where you can't help but giggle. Yesterday Dan spent 30 minutes in a bank thinking it was a post office cause it was called Bancapost (Stuart and I had realised but since Dan had been waiting so long already wanted to see his reaction when the girl couldn't give him any stamps for his postcards), then Martin got locked in a secret passage in castle bran surfacing with a small bump on his head where he had knocked his head! Then today we were waiting for the bus into town at what we thought was a bus stop (it had a shelter and everything!) but the bus drove straight past! Turns out we were meant to stand at a small post 200m down the road! We spent 2 hours in a restaurant waiting for 3 pizzas!! (Romania doesn't understand speed) and finally a very small dog had taken a liking to a large Dalmatian in the park in front of the 2nd largest building in the world; it was hard not to laugh as this tiny little girl was trying to haul off her dog!!!
Anyway...you may have had to have been there but they all made me chuckle!
Will write another update in Istanbul!
Lots of love Nicole xxx
