Las Vegas
We decided to find another couch surfer for our short time in Las Vegas as we could do with the inside knowledge of the best places to go with only 2 days there. It was definitely the right decision, although the guy was slightly strange, i think there was a cultural difference in terms of sense of humour, he was originally from Iraq although he had lived all around the world so maybe he was just weird. Either way he was nice enough. As he was a local he knew a lot of people that worked in the clubs around and got us free entry into night clubs and free drinks, he even got us free entry in to places when he wasn't there!
The first night we went to the Ballagio and Excess, the clubs were absolutley enormous, both had pools whhich drunken people were falling in and they were decked out with incredible decour. The thing is in Vegas if you want to sit down in a club you have to pay, the seats are all 'vip' and come with bottles of alcohol so if you wear heels you are out of luck unless you are loaded! Luckily neither of us could fit heels in our backpacks so we were much more comfortable despite standing for hours. The clubs all have popular djs each night and the music didn't dissapoint. I was glad we had some free drinks tokens when we saw the price of the booze, it was around $20 a drink!
After a good first night we woke up to the sweltering desert heat turning Suzanne into an oven! We chilled by the pool in our couch surfer's complex and then although he had to work he got us free entry into a pool party, for which tickets cost $125! Having the right contacts is a must for Vegas! The pool party was incredible, the drinks weren't too expensive although we could still only afford 2. The music was excellent with Cruella headlining, it was boiling hot so we spent most of the time cooling down in the water. After a brilliant day at the pool party with met up with Dylan, our couch surfer from New Orleans who just so happened to be in Vegas at the same time! He was with a group of friends, one of which had a very wealthy father whom the Bellagio hotel and casino treat very well. This basically meant they had the pent house suite in the Bellagio hotel, complete with 5 bathrooms!! We hung out with them and then headed out to see Calvin Harris at a club. It was an excellent night out but it was so crowded we all preferred being further away from the dance floor so we had room to move and breathe! Dylan's friend was nice enough to let us crash on the sofa in the room so I can technically say I've stayed at the pent house suite of the Bellagio, fancy!
We cured our hangovers by the pool the next day and then bid farewell, a little later than planned (it took us a while to muster the courage to drive) and headed over to Los Angeles.
