Morning all!
So, I met the group on Saturday (day 54 for anyone counting) and boy are they awesome! Obviously I am still feeling the love for my African peeps, but times they are a changing and I must move on…kind of…basically I need some more friends and they have been delivered to me on a silver platter covered in chocolate and served with a smile so who am I to refuse :P our first night together was very simple really, we had the traditional 'gap adventures' welcome meeting (something I missed out on last time!) and then we all went to dinner to regale each other with tales of our lives etc etc etc….THEN after our tour guide Tui went home, we all went to Khaosan Road and, in the words of Michael Macintyre, got utterly gazeboed! Apparently Thai people don't like to use glasses to drink out of; instead they prefer to use buckets. And I mean sandcastle making beach buckets. And they don't like mixers either. You get the drift! So yeah, that night is a bit of a blur but I do remember seriously offending some random man outside McDonalds by posing next to the statue of Ronald McDonald praying…I thought it was funny personally! Anyway… the next morning, I was fragile to say the least, as was Alice, my new friend who I fear will become corrupted and ASBO worthy by the time I am finished with her :P We spent the entire morning in McDonalds just getting more and more food each time we managed to keep it down for 10 mins…like a reward for our efforts J so after 2 helpings of McDonalds and a tantalizing conversation about how I plan to vomit on her face, and then anything and everything I wish to own (because why would I vomit on a bag if it wasn't mine?! - Great bargaining tool - I give you 20baht, after all it has vomit all over it!) We walked down Khaosan Road for some last minute shopping. However that 10 min walk actually took us nearer 2 hours because we had to walk SO slowly since we were both in the process of dying. Seriously.
That evening we left Bangkok (just in time since there were loads of protests and s*** going on!) and took the night train and boat down to Khao Sok Island - the first of my southern adventures! However, where before the rest of the group had used 1st class sleeper trains to get from the north, Tui had decided to let us experience a little more of the real Thailand this time and booked us into 3rd class. Enter cockroaches crawling up the walls. It was not a pleasant experience! But, as Wimpy would say, 'shift happens'! Me and Alice still managed to have fun with various exploits including (and here come the greatest hits of the night) 'Lady GaGa - like milk but with a penis'….'dip my chocolate stick b****'…and replacing any form of sexual action with the word Vancouver - try it, its really fun… if your simple… like me! So Sunday was basically just travelling so not really much to say, but, by Monday afternoon we had arrived at Khao Sok National Park…Thailand's most beautiful natural…s***hole. Its not that it wasn't pretty, or had some nice trees and stuff…but 10 pervy Thai men + unknown creature pooing in your room = Bad Times.
I should clarify - the first day we went tubing, except the water was so low that the aforementioned Thai men had to literally pull everyone down the river…by their toes…while massaging them…and it was weird and scary and I cried but no one could tell because I was in a river and I wanted to call my mum but then I didn't and I got over it. :P Then we all had dinner there, and amongst many a game of Jenga (at which I am amazing by the way) whilst listening to the beautiful sounds of YMCA about 20 times, the same Thai men managed to get everyone's orders wrong and bring peoples meals out about an hour apart! But we did invent a new game called immense Jenga - which basically involves 2 sets of Jenga used as one and then it all falls down and I cry again…oh and I built a tower that defied gravity thanks to Iain's epic physics knowledge…and that was Khao Sok.
The next day (Tuesday) was far more successful. We were still in Khao Sok, however we all decided to basically ignore everyone who worked there and just do our own thing all day, which for most of us involved getting ice cream, eating the ice cream, ummm oh we went into the river again but then I got out very quickly because I ACCIDENTALLY violated a fish and then it bit me. I don't wanna talk about it. That evening we all had dinner at a nice little place called HerbThai - I can definitely recommend it - and then retreated to a little reggae bar called 'chill out bar' - where the drinks are cheap and there are no seats, just cushions (oh how very bohemian I hear you say!). It was a nice last night, and even nicer when I went to pay my bill at the hotel and found they hadn't charged me for about 60% of my food…Yay! Oh and possibly the best bit of the entire stay there; me and Alice managed to spectacularly break the fan in our room on the first night and instead of paying for the damage, we decided to break out the duct tape and fix it blue peter style! Which unfortunately resulted in it exploding in our faces 3 times before we decided it was best used as a decorative fan only and we would just place it together just enough for them not to notice…we probably should have left a note for the next people…
Wednesday morning we said goodbye to Khao Sok and headed over to Koh Samui where we spent one night, which was a pity seeing as it was sooo much nicer, but hey! The resort was seriously nice, and it was right on the beach too which was amazing J Jenni = very happy bunny at this point! We spent the day as a group just chilling round the pool, the me and alice went in search of shops (shock I know!) and happened upon a small café that decided to serve us a spicy beef salad instead of the chips we ordered...enter Alice eating a chili just for my pure entertainment! And two hours later when her mouth was still on fire…it was still funny! Who'd have thought :P Anyway, that night was pretty basic really, we went to the beach for some dinner and drinks and then some of the girls, myself included, went for a look round the night market and the off to bed we went! Because we are very responsible and never do anything bad or naughty…oh and we were sooo saving ourselves for Koh Tao….yeah baby. And there I must leave you im afraid, as it is currently Thursday morning and we are about to leave for Koh Tao on a nice little boat so stay tuned peeps!
