"BECAUSE MOM'S JUST LOVE LOGISTICS"
DAY 19: Williams, Arizona to Newport Beach, California
A fairly early start and a deep breath before we embarked on our longest drive yet - 450 miles back to Los Angeles, or to be more specific Newport Beach, Orange County.
We managed to get a good four and a half hours driving out of the way in the first leg, before stopping for a Taco Bell, a coffee and a 20 minute power nap.
We heard an ad on the radio which was a 'mom' talking about her busy day and the amount of jobs she does, 'I'm a cleaner, a taxi driver, cook, then my kids ask me to post stuff to them at school' then a guy comes on and says, 'At UPS we can package and post your items for you, meaning you have less things to do'. This was kind of ok until we heard; 'UPS - because mom's like Eadie just love logistics!'
What? Sorry! In the 30 years I've known my 'mom', never, not once, in that entire time has my mum said to me, 'Nath, I just love logistics'.
Early afternoon soon came and we had arrived in Newport Beach, so we decided to have a stroll on the beach which took as past the amazing luxury condos on the beach-front. Woweewoowa! There's some real money here.
There was a bit of a chill in the air from the sea breeze, but on seeing an older couple wrapped up (the woman was wearing a scarf), Jen said; 'It's not that cold!'. The woman wasn't wearing a scarf, but a neck brace.
Walking along the beach was a great way to relax after the long drive and seeing the surfers in the water really made me want to go surfing, so tomorrow that's what I'll attempt.
After finding some cheap digs and watching the sunset we headed out for some pizza at Balboa Peninsula and watched the Yankees get torn apart by the Texas Wizards (or whatever they're called) in the Baseball World Series sem-eye final. Is it really a World Series if only the US teams are in it? Nah!
Back at our motel, the local news reported there'd been a shark attack (18ft Great White according to experts) in Santa Barbara county - a couple of hours north of where we are. A teenage boy who was body boarding lost his life. Suddenly feels too cold to surf.
