Christmas time! Happy christmas everyone! It's so strange being away, really missing mince pies but nice spending it by Victoria falls, it's beautiful. Bridgey went up in a helicopter over the falls the other day, i did a microlight ride-it was amazing! The view were fantastic. We'll have closer contact with the falls tomorrow, in fact we'll probably spend most of the day in the Zambezi as we're going white water rafting- we're excied but scared! We've heard good thing so it should be fun! Christmas day will be different, we're going to spend the morning on Livingstone island-having breakfast as the sun rises and then going for a swim at the top of the falls. We'll take pictures! We're hoping to spend christmas afternoon at a local orphanage, with the locals.
We guess we should update you on what we've been busy ding with ourselves. We've had some random nights out and met some cool people from all over the place. After sunning ourselves on the beach in Zanzibar we headed back to Stone Town (the older part of Zanzibar) and headed to the night market along the harbour front to mingle with the locals and try their food- Zanzibar Pizza (like a crepe) and grilled casava from a sheet of newspaper- we had it with chilli and a squeeze of lime, it was actually yummy, we'd recommend it. We've also spent some time in Dar es Salaam, we spet a day snorkelling in crystal waters, exploring a desserted island and sailing on a dhow. It was amazing exploring the underwater world- the fish were beautiful, we were blown away by it. The ride back was hysterical, picture (we'll actually don't) Bridgey hanging on to the edge of the boat weeing in the water whilst the boat was moving-we were in stitches!
We've had some long drive (10 hour days, 5am starts) days in the truck but diving through national parks and seeing giraffes and elephants wandering by made the ride bearable. We headed down from Tanzania across to Malawi and spent a few days by Lake Malawi, which is peculiar-it feels like your at the sea because of the waves on the lake. We've been dancing barefooted on the beach under the stars, which is highly recommended, spent one evening in fancy dress (clothes from the local market, the clothes look like something fom the 80's, lots of spandex), Bridgey had to wear a romper suit and frilly hat whilst i had to spend the night dancing around in a floral granny's outfit! Our driver had the worst outfit by far a sexy g-string, tie and sparkly cardi-beautiful! I traded my outfit in for flip-flops-was very happy! We also did a massive hike to Livingstonia. If we thought the walks in Kenya were bad, we were wrong-this was a 20 mile hike, 31km-we have proof! Part way as we were scrambling through the rocks Bridgey turned to our guide and said "I'm not a mountain goat!", we al found it funny!
After a few days in Malawi we headed across the border to ZAmbia, to the most amazing campsite situated in South Lwanga National PArk. The campsite was fantastic-hippo's wollowing in the water, elephants wandering around the site and past our tents at night (alittle scary-hippos make the strangest noise). There were also loads of cheeky brad stealing monkeys and hyienas. Oz forget the Maldives we're going there for our honeymoon! (don't worry nan i'm not really engaged!) I saw a herd of about 30 elephants cross the river, it was amazing, my heart was beating so fast, especially when one started chasing me! Talking of elephants we went on a night safari, we didn't see any of the leopards r lions that the park is famous for but we weren't disappoited as we saw baby elephants, different wild cats, baby giraffe and heard an elephant make the most amazing trumpetting noise which reverberated around our van. Experiencing the park at night was fantastic, all the sounds and smells were so intense. Whilst at Flat dogs there was the most beautiful electric storm with fork lightening which lit up the dark skies turning them pink, at the same time hippos were getting out of the water-words can't do it justice!
We're now in Livingstone, can't believe our truck journey is over, it's sad but exciting, we've met some lovely people-Antheas great, were going to head up to see her in NZ when we go over.
That's all for now folks. HAve a lovely christmas and happy new year. Miss you all. Take care and eat lots of mincepies and christmas cake for us.xxx
