I recently spent the day in Segovia with another Fulbrighter, slowly and not that steadily remembering the first time I visited this city and its uber-famous aqueduct in high school. Memories came flooding back when I saw the giant stone structure and the little gazebo where I posed with Mel, Sarah, Angela, and Katie. And the small tourist trap gift shop where I couldn't calculate the exchange rate between dollars and pesetas correctly and got ripped off.
Luckily now, Spain uses Euros (although that sadly raised prices making things more expensive for Spaniards) so the calculation is a lot easier. I bought some postcards (30 centimes, a total steal) of the aqueduct and a small picture of a roast suckling pig, Segovia's specialty. Then, we decided to "wander" the city. Some pictures are of our explorations. We discovered beautiful cathedrals, narrow streets, and an ancient river. We took a tour of the castle and climbed 150-odd steps to the top of the tower for a great view.
Segovia is a beautiful and historical little town, and it's only a bus ride away. Can't beat that. Also, like the photo album title says, a tiny old man stumbled up to me on his way home from church and said the word in Spanish for big breasts. Instead of seeming as creepy as it probably was, it somehow added to the charm of the day. Segovia, where you can find an ancient roman aqueduct (and no I still don't understand how these things work) and ancient Spanish pervert all in the same place.
Besos!
