Haven't had too much time to update lately. We had our last night in Vegas doing more family things, as my brother Jason and his wife Lillie were in town, so it was less partying and more relaxing.
We ended up un the plus-side as far as winnings are concerned. Maybe $10 or so, oh well, we weren't there to try to get rich. We left around 9pm on Thursday, filled up the car before crossing the Cali border and drove through some really non-exciting but never the less somehow interesting desert until we hit San Bernedino. There we ran into a bit of traffic and noticed that we were back in civilization once again.
Instead of taking the I-5 all the way down, we detoured to Lake Elsinore and took the Ortega Hwy to Dana Point/San Clemente, were I spent the most of my Summer Breaks from 1982-1986. We took the Pacific Coast Highway as far as it was feasable and then the hit the I-5 again until San Diego.
All together it took 8 hours to get there with stops and traffic. We checked in the Hilton on the Bay around 5pm and went exploring in the Gaslamp Quarter. REALLY nice bars pubs and restaurants. We ate at a nice place. I had a Jerk Chicken with a Shrimp Enchillada and Christiane had a fried lettuce salad with candied walnuts. Both were yummy with a Hefeweizen from the restaurant. Then we watched some Baskeball (March Madness) and went to bed.
Today we had a nice breakfast just around the corner from Petco park (REALLY Sweet Baseball Stadium) and explored the bayfront and took a look at the USS Midway which is now a museum in SD. It was really interesting. Then we did some shopping and such, and went out to eat at Anthony's Fish Grotto (voted San Diegos best Fish 13 years on the trot). Then more basketball and now going to hit the bed soon. We have an 8-10 hour drive tomorrow to Dad's house in Sierra Vista driving through Yuma/Gila Bend and going to see some awesome desert landscape. First though, breakfast (a tip from a friend of mine) at the "Hash House a go-go) BACON WAFFELS!!!!
Will try to take some nice pics tomorrow. Need lots of coffee me thinks!
