A long drive today, we left California, drove along a section of Route 66, and entered Arizona. We noticed when we passed into AZ that there were a lot more churches than we'd seen in Cali. We spotted a church with a 'guns and ammo' shop next door, I didn't spot if they were doing any special offers for 'Rapture Saturday'!
We passed through various Indian Reservations, and Sal was disappointed not to see any wig-wams, there were plenty of casinos, though. Apparently it's a heap big money-spinner for the Native Americans.
We drove over the mountains, and stopped in the cute little town of Jerome, AZ. A former copper-mining town, it was now a big tourist attraction, and popular with bikers. The streets were full of Harleys, 4x4s, and daft little dogs!
Arriving in Sedona, the scenery was stunning. It's famous for it's red rock formations which tower above the place, and you can see them from all over the town, even from the hundreds of really crappy souvenir shops! Even though it's incredibly beautiful, and quite awe-inspiring, you do get the impression that loads of people come here, look at the rocks for ten minutes, and then hit the shops for their souvenir t-shirts, fridge magnets, dream-catchers, and postcards. That's what we did, anyway! Only joking! We looked at the rocks for far longer than ten minutes before we went shopping! It's also a big centre for all sorts of 'new-age/mystic energy/UFO' type stuff. If you want your crystals serviced, your aura manipulated or your chakra realigned, this is the place. I quite fancied a gong-bath, and the UFO Discovery Night Tour, but Sal wasn't having it. She's not 'open' to this sort of thing, honestly, some people! We went back to our lovely B&B and BBQ'd as the sun went down on the red rocks of Sedona.
