My time in Thailand is sadly, coming to an end now. I've had a absolutely fantastic time out here seen some great things and meet some great people. Although the last couple of weeks have not been great due to my dodgy club foot, though is getting better and is hopefully on the mend now.
Was a bit dubious of how a Thai hospital would be, though I was pleasantly surprised how good it was and the cute Thai nurses really looked after me. Though all the injections and IV drips were not so pleasant...... I had a foot infection and I'm sure it was picked up in the jungle whilst trekking. I have to be very careful now with any cuts/grazes/bites to insure they do not become infected again. Should this happen I think I'd have to come home, as being ill abroad really is no fun.
So apart from hospital stay and resting me foot I've had a boring few weeks. Though this is probably not a terrible thing after a very hectic month here. The only notable thing to mention was a trip over the border into Myanmar (Burma) though really was only so I could get a new tourist visa for Thailand, as mine had expired whilst in hospital. The b*****s still fined me for my overstay despite the fact I had a doctors note and was in hospital! Hoping I may be able to claim the fine back from my Insurance. I was only in Burma for about an hour (though I'm still counting it as a visited country!!!). The border town there actually put me off thinking off going to Burma as as soon as I walked over the bridge I got constant hassle from the hawkers trying to sell me tours, smokes and various drugs. Having only just got out of hospital and still in pain and unable to walk properly this was the last thing i needed!!
Though I try not to regret missing out on things things, after 7 weeks here I've not ventured south and seen any of the beeches! Although I had plenty of beech action in India it's been a shame to miss it in Thailand, so maybe next time, as I think Thailand will be visited again! (either in this trip or future holidays)
The North of Thailand has been great seen some great places, and visited great towns. The Thai people are so great and mostly always smiling and friendly (even when they have not got a clue what I'm talking about!!) The food and beer out here are all really enjoyable. I really enjoyed Bangkok, was great for party and fun, though other travellers either love it or hate it. Though if your a young single guy it's a great place.
It's so easy to get around out here, the public buses (which have been my main mode of transport) are comfy, punctual and cheap. It makes travel so easy.
So tomorrow I will travel to Laos. I'm booked on the slowboat to Luang Prabang, it takes 2 days in total (with overnight stop) so is definitely a 'slow' way to do it. I was going to get a speedboat that takes only 7 hours, but the weather out here is changing and lots of rain in the last few days so not a great choice in an uncovered speedboat. 2 Days on the boat will be good though I think, will get to see some great scenery and is a good way to rest my foot! Looking forward to putting some Door's on the ipod and pretending I'm in some sort of Apocalypse Now scenario whilst cruising down the Mekong ;-)
As always I hope everyone is well back home and have enjoyed the recent sun and the long weekends you've had!
