It's always hard to tell what the motivation is when locals approach you, MOST of the time it's to sell you something (goods or services) and this often means our guard is up, which is a bit of a shame because then the exchange between the genuinely friendly people can be hindered. From memory this guy struck up a conversation and then steered it around to him being our guide around the town. Needless to say we politely ended the conversation at that point.
