Uyuni May 14 - 15

We arrived in Uyuni around midday having already been up for almost ten hours, only to be told that we didn't have lunch included as they didn't have time to prepare it! I'm inclined to think that this was an excuse to get home early on a Saturday! Oh well...as the group were all going separate ways, some to Tupiza, others to La Paz and others staying in Uyuni we went for a nice goodbye lunch together in the local square. Uyuni itself is a bit strange, it is mainly a base to explore the Salar de Uyuni or recover after a tiring trip. It was once Bolivia's main gateway to the outside world with lots of industry, but today it is a collection of shabby tin roofed houses, abandoned railyards, rubbish everywhere and a high crime rate.

However, the restaurant we chose was actually pretty cute and I decied to order llama. I wasn't sure what to expect but it was a good piece of meat which we decided was a cross between lamb, beef and pork! We also enjoyed a cold local beer to toast a great trip and say our farewells!

Once everyone had left we headed to a hostel with a couple of the girls and booked into their last room which wasn't exactly cheap. Half an hour later the receptionist came up to say they had made a mistake and the room was actually booked. Feeling rather annoyed and exhausted we took our bags and went to find another bed for the night, this actually worked out for the best as we found one just as good for half the price and with a tv! Result!

We found ourselves in bed around 8pm watching some bad English movie and falling asleep in a nice warm bed. Of course the night didn't go swimmingly as we were awoken by someone having sex in the room above us but someone else told them to be quiet and we went back to sleep!

After twelve hours in bed we brought some snacks and headed to the station for a eight hour bus journey to Sucre.
