Hi Everyone,
Well I´m here, crossed another border and it was interesting, they didn´t pay any paricular interest in me this time, must be losing my touch.Had to do a lot of walking and queuing.
Firstly thankyou Charlie for your message, the postcard is for my neice,I can only think I put number 3 instead of 30 as the address number, hopefully some of my family have been in touch with you by now, many thanks again for takng the trouble to get in touch.
I´ve started this bit of the blog in Brazil, just crossed the border after a night on a train, actually I´m going to have to go,we are heading into the jungle for the next few days, lodges and hammocks!!!,baby wipes etc.. will be in touch when I get to Bonito, bye.J xx
Hi I´m back, hopefully I´ll have time to bring you right up to date and load up some photos too as I think this is the last time I´ll have time to get on the net.
La Paz, it is high but I´m getting used to living at high altitude which is just as well as it is built on hills,as soon as we leave the hotel we have to go down which means we always have to climb when we return. The hotel is another old colonial building which has been well preserved,we have been very lucky with our hotels in the cities. They call La Paz "The City Of Our Lady Of Peace" and it sits at 4000m.
The girls went on a bike ride,I wasn´t too sure about them going as I had read about the ride of death, the road is the highest in the world and there have been several deaths and serious injuries.I was glad to see them coming back,it turned out that none of them had read anything about it so they were all a bit stunned when they got there.Alison didn´t go,she wasn´t well so had another day in bed.
I did a city tour with the other Alison, she is a lovely young girl from London, just finished her accountancy training, her father is from Falkirk so she has claimed me as a Scottish Aunty. The tour was great, out guide was a young university student who took us everwhere and was very knowledgable,we also went to a musical instrument museum,it was absolutely fascinating.
It was All Saints day and in Bolivia they believe their deceased relatives return so they set out a table at lunch time with their favourite foods, flowers etc.The Hotel did this too.On the way back they dropped us at the Witches Market,it was a bit strange with lotions and potions,I didn´t hang around there too long.
The night we arrived was halloween, the girls shot right out to the shops and bought costumes for us to wear when we went out to dinner, the people in the restaurant must have thought we were mad.We also had a trip to the Valley Of The Moon, which was similar but much smaller than the area in Chile.
On day three we left for Unyi.We took the bus to Omaru then picked up a train to Unyi, the journey took us all day.We stopped for lunch in Unyi and met up with Paul and Hannah, a young couple we had shared a hostel with in Arica, they couldn´t get a table to have their lunch so we bunched up and squeezed them in.They travelled on the train to Unyi too, the train with the square wheels,I think it must be compulsary to have them, the interior of the trains are nice, spacious, reclining seats, television, snacks included in the price. We arrived in Unyi very late at night, the hotel was the best they had to offer, all I can say is I´m glad we were only there for one night.
The next morning we were up with the coos again( I´m going to hibernate until March when I come home) we had two four wheel drives and off we headed for the Salar De Unyi.
