Sawadee-kaa from Thailand!
Nic n Matt here! We flew to Krabi (wahoo another stamp on the passport) and met our friends who we had met in Oz - Sian, Woo and Christina, and their mates Hannah and Hayley. We stayed with them in Krabi town, a place called good dream (thank god not wet), a small 3 bedroomed affair ran by an American chap with a sense of humour. In our room guides he had hidden a secret message: 'Just to check that anyone reads this thing, ask Brian 'How many miles to the gallon does your jeep do' and recieve a free beer'!
On the next day we caught a boat (a whopping 150Bht each because the prices were controlled by the infamous 'boat maffia') to Railey beach (RAY-LAY pronounced). As God was peeing on us when we arrived we gleefully noticed the spa on site. The girls and us had a selection of treatments- I (finally) had a pedicure and Matt a body scrub (now soft as a babies bottom). Gloriously, the sun came out soon after and Woo and us hired a kayak. Matt did most of the work to get us around the bay to see some more of the stunning limestone cliffs that are Southern Thailand's infamous trademark.
We had dinner in Taunton Phil's restaurant (older chap who packed it all in to run his own place) and then drank at JAM cafe with a ladyboy and other Thais.
We went to beautiful Phi Phi the next day. My beloved JJ's hostel where i stayed last time had been out ranked by 'The Pier' hostel, 30 seconds from the boat, air con, TV and a reasonable 800bht (6 pound each). We bumped into Neesha and Binta, two girls we had met in the Inn Crowd (our hostel in Singapore) and promised we'd go for din dins with them the next night.
In Phi Phi we kayaked to Monkey beach (white sand which felt like silk), trecked to the viewpoint (my happy place), snorkled at Phi Phi Lai, saw the fire show at Hippies bar (amazing, must see) and Neesha and I punched eachother in the head at the Reggae bar (we volunteed to kick box eachother in the ring for a free bucket of drink ah hahaha). We also saw Maya Beach (the one from 'the beach' film. Que RANT..
We got up superbly early (well ok 8am) in hope to nip to the other island for a deserted paradise before the other tourists got there. We were mildly worried when a speedboat flew past us hurling the metaphorical and literal water in our faces. I was determined not to have the fisherman park in Maya Bay itself because the boats ruin both the sea bed and view. So we climbed through the hole and walked to the beach. Swang round the corner and sighed heavily. You could just about see the paradise view between about 100 sunburnt tourists and 17 powerboats!!!!!!! Dammnit! Swam to a little beach beside it (over a few sharp rocks) and were able to get a few pics.
As for the snorkling, the last two years since I went there has gathered a half inch oil layer and half a ton of rubbish - plastic bottles, the odd flipflop or chinese noodle packets mainly. DISGUSTING! The fish were stunning (i think better than barrier reef but Matt disagrees) but we had to seriously shower off after!
After a wicked night out with the girls, we left this morning to Phuket. Staying in town in Lonely Planet's number 1 recommendation (the name of which we cant remember). While viewing a few places before, Matt actually stumbled across a mimic guesthouse s***ehole identical to the koh san road place Daffy died in the Beach!!! gross. Great roti here though, and cheap.
Looking forward to Khoa Sok National Park tomorrow.. xx
