After a great staff show out in Koolunga on Friday night we woke bright and early to head to the airport to catch our flight to Sydney. We had been putting this trip off for too long and were very excited to finally see the sights of Australia's largest city.
We caught our plane after taking back our rental car at the airport (the Astra blew a rad the previous day while taking our goods to the port to ship home). It was a short, smooth flight and we landed in Sydney just before lunch. We caught our transfer bus and made it to our hotel on Pitt street to drop off our stuff and head out to see the amazing sights of Sydney.
The first stop was the Hard Rock Cafe for lunch at Darling Harbour, a beautiful tourist zone full of buskers and great shopping and restaurants. After lunch it was off to the Sydney Aquarium to see some amazing aquatic life. After that we made our way to Starbucks to get a coffee and wait for the fireworks at 9:00. I was very disappointed to find out that Starbucks was not brewing any more coffee...this was the second time this had happened to me in Australia and I was thinking maybe it wasn't just a coincidence. We saw some amazing street dancers and finally caught the Christmas fireworks over the harbour...they were beautiful. We then made the walk back to the hotel and crashed for the night.
The next day saw us taking to the water. We took a 2-hour harbour cruise and saw the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House as well as many other beautiful sights. After the harbour tour it was off to see and touch the Opera House and do some shopping before our jet boat ride around the harbour. This was definitely a highlight of the trip...we got absolutely soaked and had a blast! We then headed back to the hotel, soaking wet and changed for dinner.
We had only a short time left in Sydney and decided to see Madame Toussauds Wax Museum and the Syndey Eye Tower. Both were fantastic and very memorable. It was a short flight home and we were back in Clare ready to get to school for the last two weeks of school before going to Bali and finally heading home!
