There was a violent electrical storm over Innsbruck last night. Luckily it cleared up before we ventured out to look for a curry. It turned out that there were plenty of curry houses here and we chose to eat at the one which was top on TripAdvisor, Himal Nepal Kitchen. Quite passable.
Left Innsbruck at around 9am and headed south. Immediately hit with a brutal climb that saw us gain 400m in height in just a few kilometres. On ‘cold legs’, it was really tough work. The next 15 or so miles took us on a series of ups and downs through some stunning countryside. Towering and craggy peaks, some still with snow and, on occasion, dizzying drops.
After a while the terrain levelled off for a while before we began the ascent of the Stenner Pass, where we crossed into Italy before beginning the long, long decent into the town of Vipiteno-Sterzing where we’ll stay tonight.
Lots of cyclists here in this pretty little town, many of them, presumably, heading to Stelvio.
Clean pants tonight.
