I visited Surfers Paradise for just one day, it's a place where all the 'schoolies go', and I visited on one of the days when they were having there 'schoolies week'. I like to be informative to all the readers but I'm afraid to all the lazy people out there, if you haven't already worked it out, you can look up the definition of 'schoolies' yourself. They seem to have two weeks of this, one for the Queenslanders, and one for the other lot, mainly from New South Wales (I think). The place just Seemed abit over hyped to be honest. It had a nice beach, but it also had the Benidorm feel, but I would say I prefer Benidorm, as Bendorm at least tries to cater for the other types of people. It seemed to try and mirror the image of Las vegas from what I could gather, but obviously alot smaller. It certainly seemed sleezy, with females wearing not a right lot going up and down the streets trying to sell you nightclub tickets. Turns out, the female lived just up the road from my mate in South leeds. The McDonalds was right next to the beachfront, classy. Compare that to Noosa which is located hour and half in the other direction of Brisbane. That place had a 'sea' of up-market restaurants up and down the beachfront (did anyone notice what I did there).
I went to 'Surfers' for the day with friends that had sole intentions of going on beach and topping up the tan. As the adverts on TV here say though "there is nothing healthy about getting a tan". I plastered myself with suntan cream, and the people at Nivea are working overtime as we speak, as I think I used half a bottle of factor 50 on my left toe. It was cloudy and overcast most of the day really, but as people learn the hardway, an overcast outlook and no sun in the sky does not mean you will get away without being burnt if you haven't put the cream on.
I may have had a better impression of 'Surfers' if I had stayed here a week, but I usually get an overall impression on a place after a few hours anyway, so I don't think I would form a more positive opinion if I come back a second time to be honest. It's obviously good if you just come out to drink every night by the sounds of it, but there doesn't seem a right lot here in truth apart from the beach which in my opinion was very nice.
If I start to like these sort of destinations though in the future, I reckon I'll just support the British economy and take my holidays to Butlins at Skeggy.
Sounded a right boring old fart in this blog haven't I?.........FAN-TAST-IC.
