The reason why I need to write these travel blogs is that I forget the names of just about everywhere I've visited within an instant, and half of the things I've done. The place where the picture to the left was taken from was called "reflection point". I'm sure you can figure out why it's called that. I think (but I'm not 100% sure) that it was Westland national park where we saw some quite spectacular views of the Fox glacier.
This Glacier hasn't got much of attention in this blogs compared to Franz Josef as the picture to the left is exactly just how close I got to it, where as I actually walked onto the Franz Josef Glacier.
The same day we went onto Makarora, and the driver had said how where we were going to stay would be similar to Barrytown, as it was in the middle of no where. The groans could be heard at the back of the bus. We didn't expect warm showers that night. It would turn out however that most people (including myself) thought where we stayed was beautiful. It had a cosy little pub (free pool...yesss), but at 1am it was a nightmare getting back to our little huts, as there was no street lamps whatsoever. Karaoke was the main highlight of the evening, and everyone agreed that I was indeed the Karaoke master, and I even got a free drink for being the entertainment for the evening. I sang the songs "If I could turn back time" by cher and "it's not unusual" by Tom jones. American pie went down well also......."drove chevvy t'levvy, but t'levvy wa dry". I think an idea when I get back home is to release plenty of old songs and sing them in a Yorkshire accent. They seemed to go down a treat.
We woke up early the next morning, and I had a quick walk around and took a good look at the lovely views. It looked a bit like the Cotswolds somewhat. As usual I was the last on the bus, but I'm not going to sit on the bus when it's not even moving, as I spent my life on that thing anyway. I could have stayed in Makarora for a few days but as we were in the middle of nowhere and there was no Tescos or Asdas equivalent in those parts and food supplies were non existent, it was time to move on. We drove to Wanaka, and there didn't seem much there apart from having a huge lake, which was called...hmm....Lake Wanaka. We dropped one girl off who was going to skydive, as the first 5 attempts for her to skydive got called off due to bad weather. Least the weather was nice this time, so she was happy that she would finally do it (she thought). When the bus picked her back up, she had said how once again it was called off (this time due to the wind). All dejected she threw a tantrum, and just said how she was destined not to do it...ha.
We then drove to Queenstown.
Speak soon.
