We did our best to tie up Zephia for the hurricane. When we left, I was fully expecting to come back and see Zephia destroyed. We stayed with friends two & half hours north of Palacios and anxiously watched the weather forecasts. Fortunately, at the last minute Ike turned north and the eye of the hurricane went through Galveston instead of Palacios. Ike was a huge hurricane that covered most of the Gulf. Palacios got strong winds and a storm surge of about seven feet. Waves were rolling directly into the marina from the southwest as Ike moved inland. The water was soo high it went right over all the jetties and land around the marina. The wind and waves pushed Zephia too close tor the dock. Her anchor was bouncing up and down with the waves and smashed up the ends of the boards on the dock! But fortunately Zephia only received a few scratches.
