Yesterday Ian was feeling ill again so we stayed in Chetumal and spent the day in our hotel room watching cheesy films! Today, he was feeling a bit perkier so we decided to head up to Playa del Carmen. We had intended to get a 2nd class bus (since the chicken buses hadn´t exactly set a very high standard!), but it was cancelled so we ended up on a very swanky coach with a loo, AC, TV and more comfortable seats than you will ever find in the UK!

Because Ian was still feeling a bit off colour we went to the first hostel that the guide book recommended...BIG mistake! We are too old for youth hostels!! The bathroom was on the other side of the building, and we had to listen (late at night) to terrible dance music and a bunch of drunkards getting drunker by the minute, therefore getting progressively louder. While exploring the town we found an amazing hotel for about the same price...call me boring or call me old but I need a comfortable bed, private bathroom and a good night sleep!

Playa del Carmen is a very touristy place, everything is built around that industry, but it has a really good atmosphere. There is funky architecture, loads of restaurants serving food that is right up our street, live music in the street at night and a perfect white sand beach which we are going to take advantage of tomorrow.
