Day 4
19/07/11
This morning is a chill out morning. Had breakfast and packed and spent my free time sorting out the photos and making the most of our last chance to get online for a few days. This afternoon we head off to Wadi Rum.
We drive to Wadi Rum and change our vehicle to a jeep and then we set off on our new adventure. The landscape here is so barron but at the same time totally beautiful. The sand is a deep terracotta colour with small plants scattered across the landscape. The mountains stretch high in to the sky and surround us on both side.
In the evening we stop at the Bedouin camp for the night. The hospitality of these people must with out doubt be the best I have ever come across. We sit in the camp drinking herbal tea and chatting and as soon as our glass is empty it is filled again by our host. We take a walk out of the camp and head for a small rocky hill together to watch the sunset. These are the moments that will live in my memories for ever and the thing that makes me want to travel the world more.
We return to the camp for dinner and watch as the Bedouin start digging in the sand. After digging down about 6 inches they uncover a metal plate. This is cleared of sand and then removed to reveal another metal plate with a Handel. They pull this up to reveal cooked chicken and potatoes and onions. The food is carried into the tent and we help ourself to pitta bread, rice and a kind of soup and are given the chicken, potatoes and onions. The food as always on this trip has been simple but good. After dinner we all sat talking and looking at the stars. The stars are so bright out here in the middle of no where and you can even see the milky way I have never seen a night sky looking so beautiful.
About 23:00 I turn in and decide that it is too hot to sleep in the tent and sleep on a matters under the stars. Another fantastic day is over spent with my new friends.
