We finally made it up to Whitefish where Ashleigh's family (Paul, Pam, Dolan, and Caroline) had an amazing ski-in-ski-out resort for a week. This place was great. Thanks so much for putting us up guys (and putting up with us).
The first day Ashleigh, Dolan, Pam, and I decided to do some cross country skiing. This was quite fun. There was a golf course that had a bunch of trails on it with a few ups and downs as well. On the ninth hole we stopped at this really cool clubhouse and had some hot chocolate and hot toddies. This was like our warm up for the slopes.
This was my birthday (some call it new years eve) as well so Ashleigh made me an awesome cake and we tried to stay up to bring in the new year. Unfortunately we were really tired and only made it till ten which is twelve eastern time. So we called it a night and got ready to hit the slopes the next day.
The next day we headed for the mountain. We all warmed up some nice easy green runs in the morning before we headed for the summit. The view form up there was breathtaking. You could see Glacier National Park and it was beautiful. Ashleigh may have been a little deceived about the color of the run at the top. It was a pretty hairy blue, but she did a great job after some coaxing.
The following day we went into the quaint little town of Whitefish to check it out. We found a sweet little thrift shop and a nice coffee shop as well. That night Rick made us some deer steaks that were sooooo good.
We got about nine inches of powder that night so the skiing (snowboarding) was sick. I headed to the top right away to get some untouched powder. When I came back down looking like the abominable snowman, I found that Ashleigh and Dolan had a similar strategy. They had been taking some groomed routes to get some speed then wrecking properly into mounds of powder on the sides of the slopes. Much fun was had.
The last day we sledded, made snow forts, and had snowball fights. Paul, Pam, and the fam took us out for pizza to send us off that night. Thanks again for everything.
Next step on the agenda is heading back to Opportunity and Butte, then heading to Helena before we make our way to Washington, Oregon, then LA. By the way, anyone want to buy a Ford Explorer. It runs like a champ and will be in LA for pickup.
We love you guys
keep in touch
