Yamba 9th-10th March 2011
We had the best lie in on day 1 at Yamba till 9am (thats a long lie in for us) We started the day how we meant to go on..... relaxing! We went down to reception to find out what the nearest place was that sold milk.... we were told we had to hike all the way to, oh next door so that wasn't too bad! Shortest milk run ever! We went up to the kitchen for porridge making and by the time we had finished we'd spoken to everyone in the place nearly, wow this place is friendly and sociable, coming from Byron we'd almost forgotten what that was like. Just as we were leaving reception a rock, paper, sciccors contest had to take place because we'd left the milk out the fidge three levels up and niether of us wanted to go back! Unlucky laura! We then set off for our whistle stop tour of Yamba. I put the water in the backpack so i didn't get too hot on the walk and i thought it fitted fine but scott had other ideas. Apparently it 'looked like i was a five year old trying to fit a sqaure in a triangular hole' Well it fitted didn't! Once watching the waves smashing into the rocks which almost soaked us, and walking around the lighthouse which was coloured as if we were in Grecce (mmm mousaka) we then went and sat on pippies which was ment to be one of the better beaches. We could get used to being one off the only people on the beach, nearly 5 miles to ourselves! The next few hours entertainment was provided by a flock of dolphins ( scott informed me that flock isn't right but it will do) they were just off shore jumping in and out of the water and swimming around a couple of surfers further down the beach, at least now we can say well and truly we have seen some dolphins in the wild just a shame we couldn't steal someones surfboard to get a closer look. With all that excitment scott fell asleep on the beach for a whole hour in which he managed to blow bubbles and snore out the corner of his mouth, clever hey and a very sexy look from my piont of view, er yeah....! They maybe even be a photo on bookface too! I reckon it should be his new profile picture. We left the beach and headed back to the hostel to freshen up and start our search for lunch, 3pm hhmmm that could be tricky but second time lucky and we were allowed the leftovers in the window, tasted ok i thought! Scott had curried egg sandwich (whatever floats your boat i guess). Over lunch we must of aged 50 years because our afternoon acitivity was more suited to the older generation in white tops and trousers on a lovely flat green! With six of the other guys from the hostel we played 'Lawn Bowls' and you know what it was soo fun! In Australia it isn't uncommon for the younger generation to play which was a bit strange at first but why not! The teams were chosen and with myself as one of the captains i picked scott and a canadian guy called Robin (i think) the jack was tossed (no thats not rude) and the game began. Scott started off really well and played well throughout i would say he was soo much better then me! but isn't he at everything! The other guys were surprised but we said 'hey we have english grandparents' The final score ended 20-0 with 8 ends played. Laura was really pleased with effort and decided when she gets home to renamed herself gladius and try out for lawn bowls! HAHAHA! sorry scott wrote that bit! I was actually better then him because he peaked a bit too earlly with some great shots but i have now found my new calling in life woohoo! When we got back to the hostel, around two hours later, i got really excited to see the cafe had nachos on the menu but it would have been $12.50 so a small stroll to the shop because i didn't think it would be fair to let scott have the $0.40 noodles from woolworths. From the shop we managed to be our own nacho kit. So we bought the cheapest plastic cheese of the season? I mean the cheapest plastic cheese we could find. (sorry i was listening to the football) Salsa and some funky looking guacamole and we were done. Despite you being able to taste the cheapness and the processedness of the cheese, and something funky in the guacamole, homemade nachos on the cheap was a lovley change to our normal menu of rice and..... pasta and..... noodles and.... it did look rather manky though as we over did the salsa a little. A game of table tennis after dinner helped dinner go down (we were both awlful) balls flying every way, it got competative. We headed down to the bar after for drinks with the winners and losers from our bowls game earlier that afternoon. I say drinks everyone else had beers and wines while me and scott had our warm bottle of water. 11pm fast approached so we said out emotional goodbye and headed down the road to the bus stop- we didn't want to leave Yamba and it wasn't because we wanted another game of lawn bowls. We dreaded the long bus journey down to Sydney and dreaded the thought of being seperateted and having to sit next to the odd ball everyone else was avoiding! Thankfully we only had to sit apart for a couple of minutes until a older lady got off and i was the only one on the bus to wave her off (rude people,Ha!) We had a nice seat right at the front so no one would be able to put their chair back and crush scotts legs this time. But is was going to be a long night with no chance of finding a comportable position at all, these buses are not designed for sleeping on! We had to wait till 6am to cheer ourselves up a little with a lovely boost breakfast, very healthy i don't think! Sydney was only 4 hours away and it couldn't come sooner!
