Helen and Dean - Choice, Bro.
Hi!
Well, we have been very busy since our last post card, so here is a quick over view of what we have been doing!
We finished up our tour of New Zealand (which feels like it was ages ago now!) by going round the north island. We went snorkling, up the Sky Tower in Auckland, White Water Rafting (including the highest rafted waterfall in the world... apprently!), visiting amazing glow worm caves which were very spectacular and staying with our relatives in Welington (thanks Ann + co) amongst other things! We had a brilliant time in NZ... its an amazing place!
From there we headed to Fiji. We had a great time here also! The people of Fiji are super friendly and it was great fun exploring the islands. We spent a few nights in the mountains when we first arrived which are very spectacular - lush tropical rainforst and tiny Fijian villages. From here we went along the south coast of the main island (Viti Levu), stopping at the beach, until we got to the capital of Fiji, Suva. We stayed just outside the city near an excellent nature reserve which had lots of waterfalls and pools you can swim in. There was even a 7 metre high one which you could jump off the top of! Very exciting! We also looked around town and went to the very interesting museum, which has lots of exhibits including grusome information on canibalism and painful sounding tattoes...
After this we went to another tiny island. It was only 15 mins to walk around the whole thing, but it was a real paradise style place. There is nice sand beach all the way around it, no electricity or running water (buckets of rain water for showers!) and we stayed in small thatched 'bure' (huts) right on the beach. The snorling here was excellent - a big reef right off the shore - so we spent lots of time doing that and sunbathing. It was really amazing!
After this we went to Levuka, the old captial of Fiji, where we stayed in a posh old hotel with a great swimming pool. Its a very nice, relaxing town with excellent resterants and a great place to finish up in Fiji.
We had to travel back to the airport on Saturday, which took all day, then we flew to Rarotonga. In doing so we crossed the international date line, so actually landed on Friday... crazy!
For the last couple of days we have been exploring Raro. We have rented bikes and yesterday cycled round the whole thing (its only a few hours to do so) stopping for swims along the way. We havnt actually been up to much else since we got here though as, annoyingly, the weather is a bit pants - it is raining + overcast! Rubbish! Hopefully itll clear up soon though!
We hope you are doing well.
Take care,
Dean + Helen :-)
