We had an excellent sleep in Torquay last night - earliest night we've had since arriving in the UK I think! This morning we set off for Cornwall with a stop at the otter sanctuary in Buckfastleigh, South Devon. The otters were so cute and we watched them being fed (fish and dead chicks - a bit gruesome) and listened to the keeper talk about them which was really interesting. We had a quick look at the butterfly house there and had a devonshire tea (when in Devon...) but they call it a cream tea here before going on to the Lost Gardens of Heligan. It was very peaceful wandering around the gardens and as well as the robin, we saw a woodpecker being photographed by dedicated bird watchers. The gardens are very large and quite pretty and there's still a lot of work going on to restore them to their former glory. We thought that we'd just have time to have a tour of the St. Austell brewery but we were too late so we continued on to Truro where we are staying with Patrick's parents Mike and Stella. For those of you who don't know, Patrick was one of the cricket boys who stayed with us and his parents very kindly invited us to stay with them. Mike and Stella weren't home when we arrived as they are both very busy people but they'd left a key under the mat and instructions for where our room was etc. We felt a bit odd about letting ourselves into the house but they soon arrived home and we finally got to meet them face to face. They're lovely people, Stella cooked us a really nice supper and tomorrow we're going to St. Ives with Mike (Stella has to work). It's very pretty here and we're certainly looking forward to seeing a bit more of Cornwall in the next few days.
