Hi Everyone!
Finally, civilisation! I arrived in Darwin a couple of days ago and actually got a bed to sleep in rather than a sleeping bag! I quite like it here, there is plenty to do but at the same time its quite chilled out.
I got off my tour today and am flying to Melbourne tonight. Quite excited really! Have so many plans for things to do once I get there that I'm not sure I'll fit it all in. I plan to take it easy though since I've been running round like a mad thing camping and have a bit of a sleep deficit to correct.
Having said that, I did manage to sample the Darwin nightlife quite spectacularly on friday. The rest of the trek group decided to make it 'Heather Night' since I was leaving early and consequently bought me many drinks and got me dancing on tables. Oh dear!
We have seen some beautiful things on the tour. Katherine Gorge was lovely. We took a cruise along 2 of the gorges in the Nitmiluk NP, in the baking sun at 8am! We went to Florence falls and swam in the natural pool at the bottom of the falls. I managed to swim under the falls (on my second attempt) and looked up at the water crashing down in front of me. It was truly spectacular and I will never forget it.
Its going to be different from now on, going to cities etc. Its a shame I won;t see Uluru, but I think I;ve made the right decision. I'll miss the people but I won;t miss the heat and the glare of the sun off the red rock.
Will update you from Melbourne when I get there. Watch this space!
