Hi Guys and Girls
After a lovely sunny time in the Thai Islands we moved onto a very wet Malaysia straing in Butterworth and then taking a short ferry ride across to Penang (Georgetown).
Penanag was awesome, we hit the tourist trail hard and saw all the sights including Fort Cornwallis where Mike got to play with guns, a chocolate factory where Hayley ate her body weight in free samples and also Chaing Ftze Mansion . We also discovered the most amazing curry place in the world in Little India, where we ate like kings for 90p. Chicken Tikka will never be the same again! However we also soon realised that we will never again find alcohol as cheap as Thailand!
After 3 days of sightseeing we took the coach to Hayleys worst nightmare the Cameron Highlands! After a 7 hour coach trip (which was supposed to be 5) through torrential rain we arrived at a our freezing cold hostel only to find that all of our clothes were soaked as there was a leak in the baggage compartment of the coach! So all of you who told us that we wouldn't need a hairdryer were wrong! Mike described our room as a chinese launderette with the hair dryer in constant use as we tried desperately to dry our clothes and get some warmth!!!
The fun didn't begin really until Mike decided it would be a good idea to make me go on a jungle trek through the tea plantations and wilderness! I will let Mike describe how much fun I had and how grateful I was for allowing me to experience such delights...!
We spent the day in a small group with about 6 other people and the local guide kumar. First off we went around the tea plantations which was pretty boring but the real fun began when the rain started to come down heavy and our guide lead us on a trek around the Malaysian jungle where hayley managed to curse my name every step of the way. It was amazing from my point of view however hayley did manage to get a face full of mud thanks to the boot of a german climber which made things even worse.
It was honestly one of the worst experiences of my life!! And I don't even like TEA so when everyone else sat down to enjoy their cuppas I had to sit there drinking water!!!
Enough moaning from Me though, apart from that 3 days believe it or not I actually am really having a good time!
Kuala Lumpar was our next stop, which provided us with a welcome break from the cold highlands. We managed to fit in all the sights in the 2 days we had there and really enjoyed going up to the top of the KL tower and looking across the whole city! We also managed to fit in time to pay a visit to the chinatown market which was crazy but we managed to pick up a few bargains. We also sampled a lot of the hawker food which was delicious.
Next we were on a coach again this time to Singapore, which we loved, our hostel was amazing and we were in the perfect location right in the city centre. We soon mastered the metro system and were off galvanting all over the place. Of course we paid a visit to the infamous Raffles Long bar where we enjoyed a nice champagne cocktail. (we decided we would enjoy that more than a Singapore Sling!!)
We are now in Darwin and tomorrow we begin our 6 day outback adventure, at least its not raining here infact its boiling. We will let you know how we get on when we arrive in Cairns.
Hope you are all well
Lots of Love Hayley and Mike xxxxx
