Did you know that the world has a circumference of 40,075kms? Me neither. I just google'd it then to see how far off we were from circum-navigating the world by road.
By roughly only just 2,000km.
Our 8mth world tour officially comes to an end in a few days. Finally an end to endless road gazing, noisy nights and runny poos!!!
Africa has been amazing, yet i've found it difficult to say this earlier by the average lack of internet access (not surprising it is africa). So...after leaving zanzibar, we headed south to Malawi. Mistakingly I thought the locals were friendly until moments after crossing into Malawi, a bamboo spear was thrown through our rear window!
Throat still intact I did get bitten by a spider that was lingering in my towel. Nasty looking thing, with 6 eyes, big hairy dirty legs and fire breathing out it's arse...it got me paranoid. However lucky our truck was equiped with a mini penis pump (wasn't but looked like it) to suck the venom out of my arm. Within a matter of seconds the swelling reduced and I was the proud owner of a bloody good spider story. The spider (which I murdered as revenge) has a self portrait in my albums collection.
Moving on from Malawi, we sped though Mozambique to Zimbabwe. Living like a millionaire strapped up on 750million zimbabwian dollars, we started in Harare. Though unlike a millionaire, there was jack crap to buy. Supermarkets were in a severe food shortage, stocking random b******s like gravy mix and a dish sponge. Instead we went to the movies which cost us a mere 10million dollars (well 60 US cents).
We hung around in Zimbabwe for a few weeks living off soy mince and tinned beans. However we did visit a lion breeding camp where we walked with 18mth lions - my words probably won't give it justice so I'll stop there.
Botswana did some gamey things and took some canoes in to a swamp for a few nights (Okavango Delta). Then Namibia to see more animals, desert and the feeling of jumping out a small plane over the Namibian desert.
But now in South Africa - Cape Town to be exact stretching the last few cents from the biscuit jar. Apart from spending the day at the doctors trying to fix my infected knee (did an air guitar slide during "sweet child of mine" a week ago but the floor had too much friction), Cape Town has everything. Kinda reminds me of Melb with the funky alternative bars and cosmo culture.
Anyway, I gotta go (again). Most of my african photos are up now - check 'em out. Otherwise I'll catch up with ya once I'm settled back in to the grind back in sunny melb.
cheers, hatton.
