Day one We got picked up from our hostel in the morning and piled into a 'yute' with other people who were also going on the trek with us. We had chosen to do a three day trek, the other option was just a two day one, but as we had extra time in Chiang Mai we thought we would make the most of our time. Next stop - Chiang Mai, Thailand. After a hell raising tuk tuk ride in the dark to the bus station in Luang Prabang, we boarded our "Luxury VIP" bus that would take us on the first part of our journey to Chiang Mai. We've had some pretty questionable buses so far but I think one wins! No sleeper beds here, just normal coach seats which reclined slightly- or in Lou's case didn't recline at all! After hearing so many horror stories about the 30 hour bus journey from Hanoi to Laos, we decided to be "flash packers" and booked ourselves onto the 45 minute flight from Hanoi to Luang Prabang and hopefully save ourselves some time and trouble!
