We begin our month-long exploration of many areas of this 5th largest country in the world. We start with the a visit to Christ the Redeemer overlooking the beautiful bay of Rio de Janeiro. Then we go to search for wild jaguars in the Pantanal, largest fresh water wetlands in the world, encompassing 72,000 square miles. We then head North to Manaus, the capital of Amazonas, sitting on the confluence of the mighty Amazon and Rio Negro rivers. We then immerse ourselves deep into the steamy jungles of the Mamiraura protected reserve in the Amazon. Once we extract ourselves from the rain forest we head to the coast and the colonial town of Olinda. It is time to relax and we head a few hundred miles off the coast, basking in the sun and snorkeling in the beautiful waters surrounding the tropical archipelago of Fernando de Noronha off the Northeast shoreline of Brazil. After a few days, we head back to Rio to stay on the beach and visit Sugarloaf Mountain. We will depart from Rio to return home.
We start by picking up a one-way rental car and driving to LAX. We are flying on Copa Airlines, with a stop in Panama City, Panama.
