The drive to Montreal was good, sticking to the more scenic routes. It took 2 days to drive to Quebec and as soon as we entered the state we were amazed at just how similar the countryside is to France. We passed through many villaages along the south of the St. Lawrence river and all of them had houses and other buildings just like the villages in France. Once on Prince Edward Island we headed for the capital charlottetowne which has the perks of urban life, coffee shops and a lively cultural scene, although about 15 years behind back in time. PEI stretches 224k tip to tip and there is a cycle path whick goes from one end to the other on a disused railway line which has been graded and covered in gravel. We travelled up the north shore of Nova scotia all the way from Digby to Pictou which for most people is merely a stopping off point for a trip to Prince Edward Island which is why we were there. We left the campsite at just before 8 a.m. and were boarding the ferry by 8.30 across to PEI the crossing taking about 70 minutes. The south shore of Nova Scotia is where you find all the lighthouses and forested rocky coves. Luckily for us the weather was good. Lunenburg is the largest of the south shore fishing villages and is actually a Unesco World Heritage site.
