Well, we've had a very nice couple of days and the weather has improved 100%! Hue to Danang was lovely, some people were going on the coach but the train journey really was one of the most scenic we could have wished for. The train itself was absolute chaos and there were lots of puking kids but the view out the window made up for that. The bus from Danang to Hoi An picked us up right outside the train station.
Hoi An is probably our favourite place so far, there's a central 'old town' that is a UNESCO world heritage site. The architecture is really picture-postcard vietnam and there's a really nice bridge over the river lined with lanterns. Hoi An is famous for one other thing and that's clothes! We ummed and arhhed but I've ordered a suit and Steph has had a lovely cotton day-dress made. The fitting alone was an experience, there really has to be a market for that kind of thing in Britain, you'd make the first million on novelty alone!
We spent yesterday sightseeing, Three quid gets you a pass to 5 old buildings around the town. The food here also deserves a special mention, Snapper bbq-ed in a banana leaf last night and much cheaper than most places we've been.
We hired a motorbike today and rode out to My Son, another world heritage site. The roads here are virtually empty compared with Hanoi and the bike ride actually ended up being the more enjoyable experience than the My Son ruins!
We've had to make a comprimise with time though and miss out a planned stop in Nha Trang. We've have had less than 48 hours in Hoi An if we'd gone there and we liked it here so much we've given that up the spend the time here. That also meant that my suit will be made in time. So tonight (6pm) we get on a bus for the 22 hour trip to Saigon. We've gone for a seat rather a bed this time; firstly becasuse it's Tet and the beds were $20 more expensive (a days budget!) and secondly once you're in the bed you're not really free to move around (people sleep on the floor in the aisle) so we might be able to stretch our legs a bit more and get a good game of Cribbage in!!
Hope everything back there is OK, miss you all and we're thinking about you.
Lots of Love
Greg and Steph
