Hi folks, Steph 'skydiver' Glanville here!
Yep, I went through with it and had an awesome experience jumping out of a plane over the West coast of NZ and I wasn't even nervous...until the door opened at 12,000 feet and felt myself falling into nothing, opening my eyes and seeing the bottom of our tiny plane in a big blue sky!! Once I'd got over the shock of falling through the air it was an unbelievable experience, being able to see the mountains (Mt Cook and Mt Tasman, NZs highest), Fox glacier, the rainforest and river and the beach and ocean all at the same time. Greg had his own adrenaline rush driving superfast down the road in time to see me land!
To fill in the gaps since our last blog from Queenstown, basically it rained! And then it rained a bit more. And a bit more! We drove down to Te Anau at the centre of Fjordland hoping to do some walking but was just too wet so continued to drive on to Milford SOund through the most spectacular road, lined with steep cliffs with water cascading dwon from everywhere due to the rain. The cruise around the sound itself was similar, just waterfalls everywhere, really impressive and worth the trip even in the rain.
From there we headed towards the West Coast via Wanaka, a beautiful little town on the edge of a lake and surrounded by mountains. We liked it here a lot and the weather cleared up! Clear blue skies and sunshine, much more what we'd hoped for! We did a great walk up 'Mount Iron' with 360 degree views of mountains and lakes. I had orginally booked to skydive here but this got cancelled several times due to the weather so we headed up to Fox to do a glacier walk. After a pretty tough walk to get to the ice (700 steps and about 1.5 hrs) we were rewarded with some great views and walking around on the ice was amazing.
From Fox we've driven North to Abel Tasman and just done a gorgeous walk through forest interspersed with beauiful golden beaches and turquoise water. Tomorrow we drive to Picton to get our ferry to the North Island - last check-in 7am Monday morning!!
Can't believe we only have about 9.5 weeks left of our trip, we're getting ab it sentimental but very much looking forward to seeing everyone and excited about everything going on when we get back.
Love to everyone and on a personal note a big 'cheers' to all my family meeting up in Plymouth this weekend, thinking of you!
