Hi everyone,
Wow, what a place. America so far has been big cars, big buildings, big food, big personalities, big highways, and so far has met our big expectations.
We have been in LA for the past 4 days, and seen many interesting places and met some very interesting people.
Firstly our biggest challenge was learning how to drive on the wrong side of the road, plus trying to find our way from LA airport to Santa Monica. Santa Monica was a nice place, close to the beaches and plenty of nightlife.
Our second day in America was the 4th of July, and they did not disapoint. The whole city comes together to celebrate everything American. Although we thought the whole thing was pretty funny, we did say that it would be great to see Australia become more patriotic towards what we stand for and what we believe.
Third day was allowing Leanne to play out one of her fantasies, playing Julia Roberts from Pretty Woman in Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills. The shops were massive and way over the top, but we have become quite used to this by now.
Fourth day was visiting Venice Beach. This is where Mal wanted to play out a few of his fantasies, such as playing basketball against some husslers; working out at Muscle Beach Outdoor Gym; or saving a life as in Baywatch with the Hoff (and others). Unfortunately none of these were achieved.
Fifth and Final day was visiting Disneyland. Can I say, I was not looking forward to this, as I thought it would be too childish. But after many discussions with Kirsten, we decided to give it a go. And we are so glad that we did. We had an absolutely awesome time, and with the very clever instructions supplied by Kirsten, we were able to go on all of the attractions with very little time stuck in queues. Our favorites were Space Mountain, Jungle Cruise and Indiana Jones.
Overall a good time was had and we are really looking forward to getting to New York and catching up with Tracey and Michael, and also seeing a very different side to America.
