We returned to Saigon for a couple of days for the Reunification Celebrations, but managed to miss them as Graham was ill!We did see some of it on TV though! We also did a little walking and saw the river, the Notre Dame Cathedral and the US embassy (Graham wanted to see it for some historical/ war related reason) but it is behind a big wall and they won't even let you take a picture of the sign!We think Graham maybe had a worm, but he's much better now.
We took the day bus to Nha Trang. It's a long journey, but was quite comfortable with seat/ bed type things! We also had a lunch stop at Mui Nui (or something like that) so got to see another beach resort.
Nha Trang has been great, and the clearest sea water we have seen so far.It is crystal clear, so visability was excellent. We did a day trip of snorkelling around some local islands, which was fantstic asd the water was so clear. We saw so many fish and spent about 4 hours in the water.I did get a little sunburnt on my back though! We were given the option of this trip or the party boat where you visit a floating bar with hoards of other tourists and they play load music on the boat.We declined this and saw and heard it going past us as we snorkelled peacefully.(I know I'm getting old now!)
Yesterday we hired a motorbike and Graham went off exploring up the coast whilst I had a nap.He had a great time, and fely like he was doing the Top Gear challenge! We then both went on the motorbike to see the Long Son Pagoda and Po Nagar Towers. When we got to the towers they were packed as it was some local festival. So, we went in (for free due to the festival) and watched the performances and people setting up picnics and taking fruit into the temple for offerings. It was great, and a guy told us it was going on for 3 days and that many would sleep there that night. We then went to Louisianna brewery, which was excellent and had a pool and private beach. We sampled a tasting tray and decided to go back again the next day.
So, we went today and the pool had been drained for maintenance! It didn't matter though as the sea water was so clear and nice to swim in, so we have spent the day there, feeling like we were in a 5 star resort, not on a backpacking holiday!Overall we have really enjoyed it here.It is quite large so you can choose to be in the party area, or to walk and find somewhere a bit quieter. There's lots of choice of bars and restaurants and we found a great little café called 'Something Fishy' which is Aussie run and does huge cheap breakfasts and fantastice Fish and Chips (Snapper).
Moving on to Hoi An tonight on the night bus, so hoping this afternoon's beers at the brewery will send us straight to sleep.
Maggie x
PS. We were staying next to an army base, and our hotel room looked over their display of old planes, so Graham was happy!
