As we arrived into Fiji, we were greeted at the airport by a band playing local music - they were there for everyone, not just us!Our flight was a little late so we decided to get a taxi rather than wait for the next local bus.It cost us $100 FJD (about 35.00GBP) for a 95km, 2 hour taxi ride!I've paid that amount to get home from a night out in Hull in a taxi before.
We had pre-booked into the Beachouse, on the Coral Coast for our full 2 week stay in Fiji, as we thought it would be nice to stay in one place for a while and relax - and that is just what we did.Our 2 weeks have been brilliant, and we have hardly done anything, so the blog is rather short, but there are loads of photos! We have spent time sunbathing, reading, walking around the rock pools, swimming in the pool and the lagoon and going out on the kayaks. We did have some rain for the middle part of our time here though, so it wasn't all sunshine for those of you who were starting to feel jealous! In those days we spent our time playing pool, cards, scrabble and table tennis and we had a couple of massages - only 7.00GBP for 1 hour!We did not really venture any further than our resort, as everything was here.We got free breakfast and afternoon tea (scones with strawberry jam and a cup of tea), and the evening meals were great and not too badly priced. They also had a Happy Hour everyday from 5-7pm, so we took advantage of that most days too.
We went out fishing a few times (I went twice and Graham went 4 times) and caught some fish.I only caught 1 - a Trigger fish, but Graham caught lots. His first catch was half a tuna! We were trawling, and as he reeled it in a little too slowly, a shark bit off the end of it!We cut it up and used it for bait though which worked perfectly as between 4 of us we caught 11 more fish that day, including a Rock Cod, Trigger fish, Red Lipped Snapper and Parrott fish all caught by Graham line fishing.Graham also caught a Barracuda and a Skipjack Tuna, whilst trawling another day.
Whilst I was having one of my massages, Graham went to join in the coconut bowling, and won first prize - a mug of beer.He also learnt how to open a coconut, so if we ever get stranded on a desert island we can survive on fish and coconuts! We also went on the jungle trek to a nearby waterfall. The guide was very informative about the local area and plants, but the trek was rather muddy!A great reward to swim in the waterfall though, and it was nice to get out of the resort.
We have met lots of fantastic people here, both staff and other guests, who have made our 2 weeks just fly by.So, it's off to the USA - flying into LA, then an 8 hour wait for our next flight to Miami.
