Maybe not Gordon's last trip
Still travelling although having more trouble finding an internet connection here in the USA than in the whole of South America as everywhere is rigged for wireless free and only a few places, this one being a Best Western Motel, have a keyboard facility which is available and at an affordable price.........most charge $3 for 15 minutes.
I am fine and have just finished a blitz of Grand Canyon, Canyon de Chelly, Bryce and Zion and a few in between. I think I am canyoned out but have seen some amazing countryside and have taken some hundreds of pictures.
Have been having some fun with the South Western cuisine which ranges from something with beans to lots and lots of steak in all its various forms. Have to confess that I have had Buffalo Meat loaf which was delicious and as it was farmed I am not going to feel guilty about it.
The seemingly dozens of canyons I have been through in the past week may all blend into one if I am not careful but having said that, they are all quite different in their appeal. Some really are Grand while others are majestic and others are even modest but ever more beautiful for all that. The best of the small being Canyon de Chelly where Native American Indians still live and farm on the floor of the canyon.
Sunsets have been captivating as the last beams at night have struck the redstone faces of the canyons and the shadows have spread downward to the floor. And the memory of the sun setting behind the outline of a mesa far away will hopefully stay with me forever.
Other things have not always been so pretty such as the image of a dead dog lying in the mainstreet of a small town for over a day!
Nearly bought a stetson but common sense broke through and I refrained, having worn enough silly hats in South America.
Have stayed in some fascinating places including on the reservation of the Hopi Indian where I had the funny experience of asking for a \"Virgin Mary, (without vodka) to be told \"This is Indian land where we have no alcohol\".
Also managed to get to a meeting with three friends of Bill W, right on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Beats the hell out of any venue I have ever been to anywhere.
Am now in Utah in the homeland of the Mormon brotherhood but as they have banned poliygamy I am headed out of here as soon as!
Fun in restaurant sign: "We are not Burgerking. We don't do it the way you like it. We do it the way we like it and if we don't liike you, we don't do it".
Song title on Country and Western music station "Tequila makes her clothes fall off".
Ate in a local steakhouse tonight and was told "sorry we cannot serve tomato juice as we don't have a licence to sell mixer drinks. Would you like a glass of wine or beer?"
