This morning the sky is clear and the sun is dazzling and it's a mere -4 outside. We decide to set out to find Silverfallet, the last waterfall on the river before it reaches the lake. We almost retrace our steps from yesterday but cut across the railway line, through the resort of Gammelgarden to bring us down to cross the main road. From here it is a steep walk over soft snow that leads almost down to the lake. It is quite tricky to keep some traction underfoot...

Predictably, we both slept really well and awoke refreshed and ready for breakfast. Once again we donned the layers including waterproof trousers and boots, hats and gloves before meeting up with our guides to go dog-sledding. We were awake in time to be served with warm lingonberry juice at our bedside. My shoes were frozen to the floor and the sleeping bag slightly damp on the outside (!) but we survived and we've got a certificate to prove it! Up bright and early to be punctual for our 9.50 flight to Stockholm, the first leg of the journey. We failed to factor in the awful M62 and M6 rush hour, even the M56 let us down. Of course, we arrived in plenty of time but I was a bit stressed and breathed a sigh of relief to wave our cases goodbye in the hope that we would be reunited at the appropriate time.  Next stop, a nice cup of tea! It's a lovely sunny morning and we're up at the crack of dawn for our transfer to the airport. We're quite sad to be leaving Iceland, it's a wonderful country of contradictions, glaciers on top of volcanoes that could erupt at any moment with very little warning, the air is cold but there is steam and hot water coming out of the earth.
